Southwest Airlines has inaugurated a direct route between San José (Juan Santamaría International Airport) and Orlando, while American Airlines has announced a new route from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Liberia (Daniel Oduber Airport).
Since last June, Southwest Airlines has been operating a new direct route between Juan Santamaría International Airport in Costa Rica and Orlando International Airport in the United States. This daily flight strengthens connectivity and represents a significant boost for both markets, enhancing cultural, economic, and tourist exchange between the two countries. The flight departs from Costa Rica at 8:55 a.m. and arrives in Orlando at 2:15 p.m., with the return flight departing Orlando at 11:30 a.m. and arriving in Costa Rica at 12:45 p.m.
In addition, American Airlines has announced the launch of a new route from Philadelphia International Airport to Daniel Oduber Airport in Guanacaste, starting December 7, 2024. This PHL–LIR route will be the only direct connection between Costa Rica and Philadelphia. The flight will operate on Saturdays from December 7 until March 30, 2025. According to the airline, the flight will arrive at Guanacaste Airport (LIR) at 12:33 p.m. and depart for Philadelphia at 1:00 p.m., using a B737-800 aircraft with a capacity of 172 seats. With the addition of this new route from Philadelphia, American Airlines now offers direct routes from Guanacaste to airports in Charlotte (CLT), Dallas (DFW), New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), and Chicago (ORD).
