The bridge over the Tempisque River in Costa Rica, known as La Amistad, in Guanacaste, will be closed for around three months (from April 1st), to undergo the major repairs that have been urgently needed. This will have a direct impact on transportation services to the North Pacific region.
As a contingency plan, the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) has reinforced ferry services to Tambor and Naranjo Beach, in addition to the extended Limonal – Cañas and Cañas – Liberia sections. As part of the MOPT-Conavi commitment to minimize disruptions to residents, users, and tourism, several mitigation measures were implemented before the road closure – including the coordination with the Transit Police to increase to 120 officers, distributed in 3 shifts, that will reinforce the order around the bridge, Liberia, and other access corridors.
Due to these circumstances, transportation services duration from Guanacaste to San Jose are expected to increase by approximately 2 hours and some of them will be operated via ferry. Consequently, services will be rescheduled to an earlier departure for people connecting with an international flight.
The main improvement last year was the complete remodeling of the restaurant. The renovated space has been well received by guests, with an increase in area and the creation of several separate spaces to give a more intimate and cozy atmosphere, in addition to updating the architectural language to match it with what they have created in recent years.
Also, the Wellness & Spa is already operating with a new menu of treatments since the beginning of this year, which has caused an increase in guests’ interest in enjoying massages and other treatments during their stay.
They are offering room service at no additional cost for drinks in the afternoon for those who want to enjoy a drink on their room deck.
This year, they have also introduced two new regular experiences to improve guests’ stay:
-Between 2 and 3 weekly presentations by the naturalist guides in the restaurant in the afternoon before dinner with the additional weekly participation of a talk by biologists from the Osa Conservation Biological Station.
-The sustainability / behind-the-scenes tour, which shows the aspects of the operation with its special focus on making it as sustainable as possible.
-In the summer months, they are hosting a “Sundowner” experience at a viewpoint above the Ocean, about 10 minutes from the restaurant.
-Free shuttle service with regulated hours to the beaches of Matapalo so that guests can also get to know these nearby beaches.
